"Mad Men"

I am so happy where men’s fashion is at the moment I feel we are getting back to the 1950s mentality of men actually taking care of themselves and caring for there appearance. The show "Mad Men" has been a contributing factor to the new sleek minimalist 1950s look.

American based designer Phillip Lim shows below his take on the "Mad Men" style for today at New York Fashion Week.

My fashion advice for this style is when trying to pull off the "Mad Men" style try to use the show as an inspiration rather then a blueprint.

Travel

Living in regional Victoria I really have to work hard to keep up with current trends, other then visiting Melbourne at least fortnightly I try to take an overseas trip each year and in 11 days I will be heading to Europe by myself for 3 weeks my trip will include time spent in London, Paris, Barcelona and Milan.

Each time I travel I come back with a different perspective on life and my design style typically grows, well that’s what I tell my Accountant anyway. :D

Bec Winnel

I found myself constantly searching for something to post today and there was really nothing that inspired me, I am pretty sure it was the bent door that a lady caused on my poor little baby car (FIAT) that really through my creative insight.

It was not until tonight when I saw a post on FB from a friend called Bec Winnel for her upcoming show that lead me back to her website and realised Bec is one of the most inspirational people I have had chance to meet and share a part of my life with, Bec works full time as a Graphic Designer and spends every other moment illustrating I would love a small slither of her determination and talent.

So to all my readers check out her website and I would be investing any spare cash on one of her pieces.

Ken Done

I hope to document and pass on each day something that has inspired my design and me and that will in turn inspire you the reader.

I start today with something from left of field for me anyway.

As I was enjoying my daily coffee at Bead & Bauble the lovely waitress said she decided to spoil me and give me a Ken Done napkin to use, out of politeness I graciously said thank you, I glanced down at the glary napkin that looked as though my nephew had designed it and asked myself, Who the hell is Ken Done?

After a brief run down on his style and great business success from my boss I decided the next best thing to do was to Google.

It turns out i did know his work and there is a part of me yes the anal retentive, obsessive-compulsive designer that likes his style.

So if you see a Ken Done napkin or even a T-shirt you can send it my way.
